Hey there! And welcome to Pursue the REAL You! I am so excited that you are here! In this section, we’re going to do a quick overview of the program and give you the roadmap so you know what to expect. I don’t want you to just blindly follow along from module to module, lesson to lesson; I want you to know what’s coming up in front of you so you know what to expect, you can tailor your expectations, and you can get in and really do the work with some confidence.
I’m a stay-at-home mom to five rambunctious little girls, wife to my own personal McDreamy, and a graduating senior from Brigham Young University – Idaho in Marriage and Family Studies. I’m currently certified in Parent & Family Education and Advanced Marriage & Family Functioning. This course is personal to me as I’ve used these same steps to change my own life. I deeply believe when you find yourself, you can love and serve others more fully, creating beauty amid the chaos of life. I’m on a mission to help others step into the powerful women they truly are.
Being a mother is a full-time job. You are on the clock 24/7 taking care of children, managing the home, preparing meals, and filling many more roles. In all it requires to care for others, many women end up feeling depleted, as if they have lost themselves. When burnout happens, negative emotions start to flood in and can quickly filter into every aspect of life. Anger, sadness, irritation, worry, fear, exhaustion, and anxiety can start to take over. This can affect the mother-child relationship, spousal relationship, and especially the self-relationship. When the mother breaks down, the family breaks down.
Relationships become unsteady when a mother’s sense of self has been neglected or overlooked. Pursue the REAL You is a four-phase online curriculum designed to combat this issue by teaching women how to feel like themselves while still caring for everyone else. This program will teach how to set and enforce healthy boundaries, how to recognize self-care needs and set attainable goals, how to ask for extra support, and establish new family routines. By understanding and meeting their own needs, the mothers who take this course will be better equipped to nurture every family relationship.
This program is in conjunction with an upper-division course in the Marriage and Family Studies major at Brigham Young University-Idaho, titled: Teaching Family Life Education.
So, first things first! If you have not yet joined the group, the Pursue the Real You Pod, please do so! The group is not optional. What we mean by that is if you want support as you go through the program, this is where you will find it. Not only will you be able to interact with other course members, but oftentimes questions you have may have already been asked in the group. If you still have questions after doing a quick search in the group, or if the answer to your question requires more personalization, we are there to happily answer those questions and give feedback. But the group is the place where that happens.
If you’re wanting any level of support as you go through Pursue the REAL You – and you’re going to want it, you’re going to need it – we want you to use that group. We want you to ask questions whenever you have them. We want you to share wins when they come – and they will come. We want you to share any and everything over there. The group is there to help you succeed. Join now!
Now, big idea! I want you to hold onto this one, remember this… GO IN ORDER! This program has been tirelessly designed and engineered for your success, so going in order is so important. It’s not just enough just to have great strategies and a workbook. The order of these lessons is really important! There’s also no benefit to reading the entire course then doing the work. If you try to do so, you’re going to get overwhelmed, and it is not a good use of your time. So, go in order, go one step at a time, do the work as you go through this step-by-step.
We will be covering how to feel like yourself again by using the REAL framework: Reassess your situation, Edify yourself, Attain buy-in, and Lean-in. Some phases will have more lessons than others, so don’t feel like you must finish everything at once. Take the time to complete the lessons in your time. You will get more out of this spending an intentional 10 or 20-minutes during nap-time than you will by trying to cram multiple lessons in while also bouncing a crying baby and trying to keep dinner from burning. It’s okay to take this slowly. If you start to feel discouraged, turn to the Facebook group! We are there to support you, as are other women who understand and want to cheer you on.
